Late Bloomer

This daffodil is one of the last to bloom this year. It looked so pretty out there all alone. I did not get the definition in the picture that I'd like to so you could see the details of the bloom. My pictures always look so much clearer on the full screen.
Blue and green. When I took this picture of the new growth of green against the beautiful blue sky, I thought how much blue and green is all around us. I am so glad God choose these colors, instead of say, yellow and orange. I am very happy that some things God did the choosing Himself and we can't change it. Again, the detail is not here on the leaves that is on my full screen view. But it's what I've got for today.

Rust

We were at a farm auction on Saturday. The theme of the day was rust. I'm afraid that I did not capture the farm implements as well as I wanted to. Farming as a living is being taken over by the big Farm Corporations. Like everything else it's do more with with less. I love the old Farmall Tractor, my dad had a Farmall but it was much older than the one in the pic. The sun was very very bright and I adjusted these pics some, but I have a ways to go yet. I really like old things and enjoyed the day with old Wayne.

The Old Burnt Church

I was out yesterday with Wayne (we had a great day! doing "his" stuff, more on that later). I got him to stop by the old Sheldon Church Ruins (locals call it the old burnt church). These are the remains of a church that was burnt to the ground (twice) during the Civil war once by Sherman, I'm not sure who burnt it the last time. It is kept up these days by the Episcopal Church. They have services there the Sunday after Easter each year, pretty neat. It is used a lot for weddings, which are beautiful (if you can plan it around the gnats). I went on a Plantation tour once and a black lady was at the church singing old spiritual, I got cold chills.
I posted two of the same picture by mistake, and then on purpose. Photo #1, I did nothing to, #2 I did some enhancing, I also enhanced the all the others, can you tell the difference? Do I need exaggerate it more? Help.

Resting

I went out to feed the horses today and I saw some of the tools Wayne keeps in is truck leaning on a sheet of plywood. He takes them out when he is going hunting to make room for the dogs, or other stuff. It occurred to me that the tools looked like they were resting. It's my first stab at B/W so bear with me. I think I like the first one better. Speaking of resting....I think I'll do some myself.

The Firehouse

I was thinking about my dad today. John H. Harriott. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Beaufort for about 5 years, then became the Fire Chief and remained the volunteer Chief for about 15 more years. The pictures today are of the old firehouse (I think they call them stations now). The only thing that even looks like the fire house I remember as a kid are the bays where the fire trucks were parked. The bays are glassed in now making a wall for, of all things, a coffee shop. One other neat thing I remember was getting to sit in the trucks on our frequent visits, maybe even getting to ring the bell. (Very big stuff ringing the fire bell.) Another thing I remember was how clean every thing was, the trucks, the floors, the bunk rooms, everything shined. I am told that was on orders from my dad. Another thing that came I guess as a by-product was lots and lots of friends. My dad passed away April 17, 1999. That's when the friendships really became evident. One really cool thing at my dads funeral (if cool things are allowed at funerals) is that Steve Brown (not the caterer) sang "He did it his way" (his rendition of "I did it my Way") for my dad. Steve was the first black man to apply as a firefighter back in the early 60's. The City fathers were not so keen on the idea. But Steve said my dad told them if they did not hire Steve, they better be looking for a new chief too. Steve is now a retired fireman, I see him on occasion in town. There were so many people at my dads funeral, one estimate was 650. To this day there are people who still refer to him as Chief. My dad was well liked by a lot of folks and very much loved by us. I miss him. I'll probably have some more pics on my dad's life later. One last note to LT, thanks for the assignment. And thanks to ASW for starting me on this thing called a blog!

A Familiar Drive

I was rackin' my brain for the shot today. I had a late night caller, e-mailer that is, who has made a special request (gave me general subjects; I have to come up with the shot) this person (we'll call LT) enjoys the blogs but does not leave a comment. So you'll be seeing some of those request as I can come up with the shot. The top photo should be very familiar to you, LT, you sent many a day traveling this road. The second photo is a very familiar sight here in the Low Country. We have many roads with tree canopies like this one. This is the road we live on. The last picture is a certain give away. Huspa Plantation was such a large part of your life growing up. I know you have good and sad memories from here. I hope I've filled the bill for today. Maybe you'll comment now. (never mind LT, don't comment we've got them guessing, read the comments on this!)
Huspa LanePaige Point Road Wish I had not posted this one,
but could not figure out how to delete it.

Time stood still...I wish

I missed my shot today. It was the perfect one; I'd been waiting for this one for awhile, not tellin' what it was (and I'll get Shelia if she tells). Anyway, I went to grab my camera, I didn't have it!! I had left it at home. Dog-gone-it. I panicked for a moment, my hands got sweaty and then suddenly my shot was gone. Hopefully not forever. So I'm having to post some I took the other day..I am not real happy with these, I was hoping to get better ones of the clocks later. I have to go to the Town of Port Royal at least a couple times a month for work and I took this picture (top photo) on one such occasion. I hate I cut the top off of the final. If you've been to Beaufort you know the chances of getting stuck in traffic because the bridge is open is pretty good. That's how I got the picture of the Peoples Bank Clock downtown (the bank no longer exist) so the clock is front of Lipsitz's Shoe Store (a whole new set of memories for another blog). The sun was blaring on the day I took these, but it's all I got. I'll put my honkin' lens on (: (asw) and try again. Hey, Amy how's the 1/3's rule looking??? Maybe I don't want to know.
