Meanwhile Back at the Creek.....

Where have they gone?
Sucked right out of their shoes? Could it be an alien abduction?
Nah! They went walking down the creek.
Pop was manning the camera, as they returned.

I'll have to not make that mistake again.
I don't like being on this side of the camera.

Remember the snake from a few posts ago?
I know, how can you forget!
He left us his "skin" right in the same tree.
That's what Jeff is getting off of the tree.

Charlie took the "skin" to school for Show and Tell.
Stay tuned for more sneaky snakes....

Totally by Accident

I just had to post this a little early. We took the cover off the pool today to get it in shape for the summer. Well, the boys were disappointed because the water was yukie, and they were told they better not get in.......Luke the little one (you can see this on his face if you look close) said getting in the pool was "totally by accident" . Charlie being older and wiser said not a word.
And we all totally believe him right?

New Adventure!

Well, today we made it over to Georgia with the boys, Jeff and Heather. We had a blast. I was so torn as to what to post, so I thought for tonight I will make it quick. Suffice it to say the boys approve of the creek.

Be back soon.

Roses

This is a little rose that grows at my backdoor.

Some how it manages to survive me.
I just noticed it today while I was waiting on
Jeff and his family to get here. I thought it to be blog worthy.

Look Both Ways, Again

This fench is a "Georgia Craker".He was at the feeders in my family's yard. They had lots of birds!
I took this picture, and he hopped up and turned around.

So Icaught his other profile.

Guess these little guys have to keen watch out for cats, hawks and people with camers.

On Top "The Mountain"

Aunt Alice said these little flowers grow and bloom on top of the mountain all the time. It is amazing, there is only a thimble full of soil there. There are a few trees growing on the mountain but they look pretty stunted.
Look what I found on the mountain, Amy's butterfly.
I was amazed too.

This guy looks a little beat up, possibly from the climb, hehe. I also like that you can see the granite sparkles in these close ups. I love butterflies too, Amy, I hope to get up to the Pond in Hampton. There is a plant there that the butterflies just love and swarm to. It's really a weed I guess. It has a small white ball of a bloom on it that just calls the butterflies.

Stone Mountain Georgia

While in Atlanta, nothing would do my family but we go to "The Mountain" as they affectionately call it. My cousin Todd worked here while in high school and even some while in college (I think). Now, my Uncle Bill works there part time (he's retired from IRS). They get real disappointed when they hear people say, "It's just a rock". Because it has such a history.
This is a shot as we were going up in the skylift. That's the Atlanta skyline you see in the
background. It was very hazy but I think you can still make out the skyline.
This is on top of the Mountain, looking towards Tenn. The Mountain is the largest outcrop of granite in the world. It's very open, you feel weird being so high and on such a flat surface. I have to admit I was a little weak in the knees, Aunt Alice said "you can walk over to the edge they have a fence". I passed!
This is a carving in the side of the Mountain. It is Robert E. Lee, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and Jefferson Davis. They say Indians used the top of the Mountain for ceremonial meetings. The Mountain has a little darker side of history too. The KKK used the Mountain for rallies around 1914. But now it is a very family friendly park with lots of stuff to do.

Happy Birthday Sissy!

My Aunt and Uncle treated us to lunch at one of their favorite places to eat in Atlanta.
It's called the Metro Diner.
They specialize in Greek food and
these six,yes count them six layer cakes.

This looked good but...
this is the one that did it for us...It's a Caramel Cake.
There were six of us so the slice worked
out to one slice of one layer for each of us.
Yum!
They had dozens of the cakes.
They all looked good.
Sorry I am not able to share your B/D cake w/ the sprinkles
with you. Hope you have a great day. Dad and I love you!

A Treasure Found

As you may have figured out, we have been looking at property for about a year. We had 4 requirements, 1. It needed to be at least 100 acres 2. It needed to have a creek 3. It needed to have a small house on it 4. It needed to be in our budget. Well, 3 out of 4 is not bad! It does not have a house on it but, we will build that in due time.
It is 164.45 ac. and this is a picture of the creek on the property, looking towards the left. The creek is a little dry now because of the lack of rain but it will fill nicely when the rains are sent from above. It's about 10 miles out of Waynesboro, GA on Ga highway 56. (Ironic it's named after him huh?) It's the Birddog Capital of the World. Guess you could call it Wayne's World *hehehe*

This is the creek as you are walking up to it. This is where most of the fun is planned. I can see the kids splashing now! And fishing is a must. We signed the contract today and will close in May. Our dream is that our children and grandchildren will spend lots of days here making wonderful memories.
I would like to say that this comes from hard work and
as a real blessing from our Lord, without whom we would have nothing!

A Bridge to Nowhere

I would hate to be driving on this bridge and not know what was coming!
This is the old bridge over the Savannah River on SC highway 3. I made Wayne stop on top of the new bridge so I could take these pictures. Of course he was fussing at me; "You're gonna get run over." So needless to say I did not get to spend the time I wanted to adjusting my camera settings, it was getting dark but I enhanced these to bring out the color. I hope to get some better ones at a later date.

Be Sure to Look Both Ways

Look right
Look Left
This little guy was hanging on for dear life. The wind was extreme here yesterday to say the least. I think that's how I got so close to him. The wind howled so bad he couldn't hear me and his eyes were probably watering so he couldn't see me. He's perched on a cultivator, he needed something heavy to hold on to. The trees were whipping constantly and like ASW's little bunting he musta got flung out.

Ahhh, The Real Thing

On the way home from Georgia yesterday we stopped at a little country store. Wayne went in and bought me this Coke. (He drinks Pepsi). It was funny because we couldn't get it open at first, then he used the side of his knife and bruit strength. Psssh! ah the sound!

I sat it up on the dashboard and took this picture. It's a "reproduction" of the old bottles. My mom always called them "shot cokes". It's only 8ozs. Not like those mega 20oz. things now. Somehow the glass bottles always seem colder and more refreshing than the plastic bottles.

They used to bottle Coke in Beaufort on Carteret Street. We used to watch the bottles go around, be filled, and capped. I must admit I am a bit addicted. I try to limit my self but, somedays nothing else will do. Psssh! music to my ears!

WARNING! Not for the faint of Heart

Well, I have moved this Picture down so as to give some warning about the subject.
This is a water moccasin.
We were, looking at property (again). I had walked down to the creek on the property. (The creek & property were very nice) I was enjoying the serene seen when I turned around and I thought...Gee, that vine looks awful black, then I thought, that's a weird place for a hose to be hanging.
Then I realized, It's a snake.
I ran to get my camera, but by the time I got back he was sliding into the tree trunk.
We hopped on the 6 wheeler, and rode for about an hour or so and when we got back I gathered up my camera and went to find "him". I was trying to get a good shot but "he" wasn't looking at me. So, my husband gets a stick and pokes him (did I mention it was a long stick?) I told Jan I was more afraid of a mouse than a snake.. now you can see I meant it. I did not scream at all, I ran towards the snake. "He" was a good snake, "he" only got a little mad. "He" was huge about 5 or 6 feet long. "He" however is not the biggest I've encountered. Well, brace yourself.............here "HE" is......

Mr. Water Moccosin

Now this is real wildlife!
Pretty neat huh boys!

Peek-a-Boo

I got this shot today while Wayne and I were riding in the 6 Wheeler (that's what old people ride).
I thought it came out pretty good....but alas no frame!

I did it! It has a Frame, that is a frame right?

I just wonder how! At 3am I stumbled on to it!
I'll keep working on it, I know I've made ASW proud!
I have tried and I have no idea how I did this!

I spent the afternoon with them today. Oh, my Lord. I laughed so hard.
They are crazy fun.
Aunt Jackie

Mom

They were not thrilled I was taking their pictures. But were good sports about it. They were worried I would put the pictures on the www. I assured them that only a few million people read our blogs! I love them dearly. I always have a blast w/ them. We are going to Atlanta next week for my cousin's wedding (Uncle Bill's son, Todd, Bill is their brother). Hope to have some pictures of that.

Lobeco

This is a tour of Lobeco. I know that we fly through here everyday. But I grew up here.
This is the first stop. It's Langford's Mill work now, but it was Marvin Transport when I was a kid. Ralph and Turner Marvin (they were brothers) owned a long haul, truck farming operation. My dad drove a truck for the Marvin's when he and my mom were first married and until I was about seven. There was always lots of big old Mack Trucks around and it was just a two lane highway then. My Aunt, Uncle and Nanny Sadie (my dad's mom) lived across the street. Only two houses remain and you can't see them for the over growth.
This is (was) Lobeco Elementary School. 1st & 2nd grade were in the same room as well as 3rd & 4th, and 5th & 6th. Three rooms six grades. The corner windows are where Mrs. Kellem's Principal Office was (although I never saw the inside of it, really)Two class rooms on the front, one class room and the lunch room on back with bathrooms on each end, one for boys and one for girls. The cool part was my Nanny Sadie was the Lunch-room-lady. All the kids called her "Aunt Sadie" so when I started school here I called her "Aunt Sadie" too. She really was a good cook to this day those who went to school with me talk about her cooking. My mom and dad went to LES too. The playground had the BEST silding board in the world! We would slide down on waxpaper, wow we'd fly. Lots of life long friends were made in this little town.
This is the Library. A few years ago they started having LES reunions. And because of that the Library gain recognition and was renovated by monies collected and by county funds.

This is Mr. Earl's store. Mr. Earl and Mrs. Ruby Blanchard ran the store and lived in the back. This was the Lobeco's "Wal Mart". You could get anything from a hair net to a pair of overalls; Lunch meat to an axe; aspirin to cold drink. In the summer this was a welcome refreshment. He had a candy counter where you could climb up on the feed sacks and pick out 2 pieces of candy for 1 cent. So if ya do the math a dime could get you 20 pieces of candy! and a coke 7 cents (that's a nickle and a return deposit on the bottle, from the day before, of 2 cent). He had a pot belly stove that was the heat in the winter. Mr. Earl would gather the items as you requested them, he always wiped the top of the cans off with a cloth. Everyone said we were so friendly that when you drove though Lobeco everybody waved at you...but really we were fanning gnats!
